Richard Niezen, a Broomfield resident, began his musical studies on the doublebass at age 17 in his Canadian hometown of Victoria, British Columbia. In 1995, he studied conducting in Prague with Frantisek Vajnar, Head of Conducting at the Prague Academy of Musical Arts.
Upon his return to the United States, Mr. Niezen was accepted at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music to study with Carl Topilow and Louis Lane.
Mr. Niezen moved to Colorado in 2000 where he has worked throughout the metro area earning a reputation as a dynamic conductor, educator and orchestra builder. He also conducts the Aurora Symphony Orchestra and, though most of his formal training and experience is orchestral, he looks forward to being a part of this group’s continued growth.
Mr. Niezen is intrigued by the outstanding energy and vitality that brass bands bring to their musicmaking and looks forward to building on the many excellent qualities already in place in this group: intonation, ensemble, balance, etc. He has already set a goal to infuse the band with an additional sense of flexibility to its tone quality.
